The sports activities group is mourning the loss of a professional rugby participant.

Kelly Meafua, 32, fell into the Tarn river in Southern France through the early hours of May 7 and didn’t survive, in line with a statement from his workforce, the French rugby membership US Montauban.

Per CNN, Meafua’s tragic passing got here simply hours after his workforce’s 48-40 victory over Narbonne.

One of his teammates tried to rescue him however didn’t succeed, per the membership assertion. The teammate was taken to the hospital to deal with his hypothermia and was launched on Saturday morning in what the workforce described nearly as good well-being.

“The entire USM Sapiac club is shocked by this tragedy, and has a thought for his wife, his children, his teammates, and more generally, all club lovers,” reads the workforce assertion, translated from French. “Kelly was a player very appreciated by all, his joie de vivre was infectious and radiant.”

All coaching has been suspended in the intervening time.

A spokesman for US Montauban advised the outlet is investigating the demise.
